Feel at home in London
South Africans visiting London will no doubt be looking at how to get the best
value from an awfully weak rand without ruining the trip by staying in depressing
surroundings. Having recently returned from just such a trip, I can offer you
a little advice on the subject.

London Calling
Still expensive but serviced apartments provide some relief
The question is, can you afford London? Hotel costs in particular
can seem over the moon to visitors, especially when they see
how small the room is they’ve
paid so much for.

Enjoy the life of royalty in Kensington
The receptionist showed us to a studio apartment that was nothing short of sumptuous.
High ceilings, a temptingly comfy sofa, widescreen TV, large bay windows, a
compact and modern kitchenette complete with microwave, hob and cooking utensils.
A lavish white bathroom decked out from head to toe in Lefroy Brooks, with
a large bath and power shower was the perfect topping on a very large cherry.

Hit the Stores, See the Sights
You couldn’t get more convenient for Kensington High Street than 51 Kensington
Court. A pretty townhouse set in a quiet square, it’s a minute’s
walk from the bustle. Anyone who has suffered staying in a hotel “family
room” or winced at the bill for a suite needs little persuasion to try
self-catering. Never underestimate the sanity-preserving power of space when
you’re travelling en famille.

Living like a King in Kensington
I tell you, having your own kitchen and dining room in central London really
does save you a fortune. Talking of fortunes, I can hear you muttering away
in the background, staying somewhere like Kensington Court is probably away
beyond your budget. Well, think again. The price, which at first sight might
appear to make your credit card melt, is in fact, very competitive and compares
very favourably with any hotels in the vicinity.
