Enjoy the Life of Royalty in Kensington
Alison O’Brien, The Irish News, Travel, Saturday June 11, 2005

Long inviting avenues with luscious green trees and towering Victorian houses – I never realised I had always wanted to live in Kensington, London, until I arrived.
Exactly as I imaged it, prosperity slowly wafting down Kensington High Street above the heads of shoppers with too much money to handle and frantic to spend it.
This frenetic activity is juxtaposed with an air of peace and tranquillity that draws you in and makes you feel instantly at home.

Three minutes walk from Kensington High Street tube station, I cut down a small passage away from the traffic and streaming hordes of shoppers. Opening out into a square lined with trees, dwarfed by stately Victorian houses, is Kensington Court. Stepping inside, the hustle and bustle of outside is forgotten as you are swallowed up by plush carpets.
From a small reception area tucked neatly down at the end of the hall a friendly receptionist greets us and shows us to a studio apartment that was nothing short of sumptuous. High ceilings, a temptingly comfy sofa, widescreen TV, large bay windows, a compact and modern kitchenette complete with microwave, hob and cooking utensils.
A lavish white bathroom decked out from head to toe in Lefroy Brooks, with a large bath and power shower was the perfect topping on a very large cherry. The apartment was luxurious and though I have been resisting the temptation to say it, it was very swanky indeed.
Soft beds and all the extra trimmings that made you feel that with a palace across the road, this was indeed fit for a king or queen.

It is a rule of travelling that no matter how well prepared you thought you were or how well you thought you had packed, you will always forget something but it is such a relief to know that anything you could possibly need is at your hands when you stay in a self-contained apartment such as Kensington Court. You feel like you are at home.
Staying in an apartment just feels right – you can come and go as you please with no curfew, you don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn for breakfast after a hard night’s partying and suffer the glare of the people at the table next to you as you gulp down a cup of stewed tea and rock hard bacon. Even if you do fancy a cooked breakfast you can order a breakfast pack from reception or with 48 hours notice Kensington Court will arrange food shopping prior to your arrival to have your fridge fully stocked for you. Now that’s what I call service.

To be honest I could have quite happily spent my time in London, chilling out in my apartment and taking advantage of the deluxe bath and widescreen TV but London has so much to offer – and I had a month’s salary to splurge on shopping – that I had to wrench myself out of the lavish sofa and heel myself out of the door.
Do yourself a favour the next time you head to London for the weekend and treat yourself like the king and queen you are by booking into a swanky apartment.
